I treated myself to a facial for my birthday this year.
Honestly, I was a bit intimidated by the facial because I had never visited a spa before. My beauty routine (if you could even call it that) is extremely low-maintenance. I paint my own nails and even have my husband cut my hair. However, I won a gift certificate to La Bella Derma, so I figured I would treat myself. I picked a facial because that seemed like the least intimidating spa treatment.
I picked La Bella Derma due to the good fortune that allowed me to win a gift certificate from them. Since receiving my amazing facial, I have also heard great things about facials at Mirror Mirror, Jivana Green Spa and Salon, Purple Sage, and Cynthea’s Spa.
First of all, there are many different types of facials.
I didn’t realize this. When I went online to book an appointment, I found a list of over a dozen options for facials. It was rather overwhelming. In the end, I booked a custom facial. The description said it was good if you don’t know your skin’s specific needs or if it was your first facial. I honestly have no idea what my skin needs, so the custom facial seemed like a good fit.
When you arrive at your appointment, you need to fill out a questionnaire.
The form asks about any skin conditions you may have experienced, such as acne or eczema. It also asks about what medications you take and any other relevant health conditions. You need to disclose if you drink or smoke. Even though we might not think about it often, our health and daily habits greatly affect our skin. This questionnaire will help the esthetician determine the best treatment for your unique skin type.
I didn’t realize that I needed to undress for a facial!
Although undressing seemed a little intimidating at first, it really wasn’t that bad. Laying down in the middle of the day under nice, warm blankets was super relaxing. There was also soothing music playing softly in the background. I really appreciated the tranquil atmosphere in the middle of my busy life. I appreciated that the esthetician explained everything about the facial before we started. I was pleased that I had complete control over what happened.
My favorite part of the facial was the hot towels.
After massaging products onto my face, the esthetician wrapped it up in a hot towel. On any cold day, especially in Vermont winter, this is the most amazing feeling in the world. I might have to try this at home sometime. I also enjoyed the shoulder and arm massage. It was all very peaceful and calming. Even the blackhead extraction wasn’t too bad. A little bit of pressure is worth having clean pores afterward!
I got some great advice about my skincare routine.
I was using a face scrub in the shower every day, but the esthetician told me that scrubs are too harsh for daily use. You should only use them twice a week. Also, she told me that my BB Cream doesn’t provide enough moisture, so I should also use a separate moisturizer. La Bella Derma sells some high-quality skin products in their boutique. If you’re not sure what your skin needs, just ask for a recommendation!
I really enjoyed my first facial.
It was a great way to take a break from my kids and focus on myself for an afternoon. I am also more motivated to take better care of my skin from now on. If you’re looking for a relaxing treat for yourself, I would highly recommend a facial!
