A Letter to the Weary Mom

Dear Weary Mom,

There is something beautiful about spring. After the cold and death that surrounds us in winter, spring is the promise of new life. The air is filled with an unspoken excitement; the promise of new beginnings. It whispers to us, “There is hope”.

I want to whisper the same thing to you today, weary mom. “There is hope”.

I’m not sure what has brought on your weariness…maybe you are like me with a newborn, very little sleep, and feeling like a milk machine. Maybe you have a teething toddler who is keeping you up at night, a child with special needs, an infant who just won’t sleep, a teenager who is asserting their independence, or you are just experiencing the normal weariness that comes with being a full time mom.

Whatever has brought you to this place of weariness, I hope that I can bring some encouragement to your soul. When we are in the throws of the daily grind of motherhood and we find ourselves overwhelmed with the task of parenting, it can be hard to remember these truths that often seem so simple.

Things won’t always be like this. Everything changes and each season of parenting has its shares of difficulties and trials. Whether it’s the weariness of life with a newborn, the frustration of a toddler asserting their independence, struggles in sleeping, potty training, etc., there is the reality that nothing stays the same forever.

If you hear nothing else I say, please here this…YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Every mom feels completely bogged down with weariness at one time or another (probably more often then we readily admit) and there are days where all we want to do is throw in the towel. Again, you are not alone. Take comfort in the fact that these feelings are normal and seek encouragement, someone to commiserate with, but more importantly, to remind you of the joy and beautiful moments in even the most difficult seasons of parenting.

[typography font=”Delius Swash Caps” size=”16″ size_format=”px”]3. Be honest with each other…[/typography]

This goes along with point number 2. Moms are far too apt to keep silent; whether it be because of pride, we don’t want to burden anyone, or we want to seem as if we have it all together because everyone else looks like they do. Let’s be honest with each other and allow one another to be OK with the messiness of motherhood. Let’s remind each other that no one has it all together and we all struggle. Honesty brings freedom.

[typography font=”Delius Swash Caps” size=”16″ size_format=”px”]4. Reach out to other moms…[/typography]

No one understands the joys and trials of mothering like another mother. This truth seems so simple, but I often forget how comforting a conversation with another mom can be. We need to be encouraging one another, listening to each other, and reminding each other of these truths. I’m just like you. I often feel invisible and bogged down with the weariness of mothering, but I’m fighting right along side you. Fighting for joy in the midst of the mundane. Fighting to remember I’m not alone.

[typography font=”Delius Swash Caps” size=”16″ size_format=”px”]5. Relish the small, beautiful moments…[/typography]

They are there, even in the most difficult seasons of mothering. Find them and cling to them. Sit in them for awhile and remind yourself of all the joy that is found in being a mother. See your children for what they truly are; a blessing. And then allow these moments to help you through those trying times that what to make you throw in the towel.

Remember, tomorrow is a new day.
