Five Birthday Party Goody Bag Ideas that are both Parent and Child Approved

0

In the world of parenting, there are some pretty divisive topics like working moms vs stay at home moms, breast vs formula, siblings vs only child and the list goes on… However, I think there is one topic that all moms can agree upon.

Our universal hate of the birthday party goody bag.

Alright, maybe that statement was a little bit dramatic, but I feel it is safe to say that almost everyone has a strong feeling about those crappy, plastic bags filled with sugar and tiny toys that clutter your home. If it were up to me, I would say that we should get rid of this tradition altogether. However, due to mom guilt, I am not willing to be the parent who doesn’t hand out goody bags, so instead, I have created a list of five birthday party goody bag ideas that everyone will enjoy!

#1 – Redbox Movie Codes

Yes, you can buy individual movie codes and either email or print them out. What is a sweeter gift to give to a family than a movie night? If you want, you can get really fancy and add in a box of candy or a bag of microwave popcorn to create an awesome kid and parent approved party favor.

# 2 – Cookie or Another Edible Treat

I guess this is more sugar, however, the kids are already on a sugar high so why not continue the party? Seriously though, a cookie, some popcorn, or goldfish will be eaten and will not wind up stuck to my window like those lovely character stickers often found in goody bags.

# 3 – One “Big” Thing

This is my go-to. I go to the Dollar Tree or Target’s Dollar Spot and I find one big thing for each child. In past years, I have purchased punch balloons, bubbles, books, Mad Libs, sidewalk chalk, kites, or coloring books with crayons. One larger item end ups being more cost effective than buying multiple small items and everyone receives one thing they can use and enjoy.

# 4 – A Make and Take Craft

Why not send kids home with a little craft? One thing I love to receive is pre-packaged activities that I can easily enjoy making with my children. I love this idea for a slime kit from Mom Endeavors or check out this adorable play dough mat from Early Learning Ideas.

# 5 – Character Band-aids

If you have a child, you know how many freaking band-aids they use and how important it is to have Dora, Cat Boy, or Spiderman help heal your bumps and bruises. Why not hand out a gift that is a party favor and also guaranteed to be used, enjoyed, and then properly thrown away?

Yes, our hate of goody bags isn’t going away any time soon, but I hope my list inspired you to find a birthday party goody bag favor everyone will enjoy. Also, I’m always looking for great party favor ideas, if you have any please drop them in the comment section below.
