Moms? I have a question. Did you sign your school-aged kids up for summer camp when you were still in the hospital after delivery or did you wait til you got home?

Seriously, folks. Summer camp sign-ups here in Vermont are… competitive, to say the least. Cutthroat, if you want to know my real opinion. It’s a hard-knock life for us hot mess moms, right? Because if you miss that 5-minute window when summer camp sign-ups open, you’re pretty much out of luck.

Sorry, Bobby, your only choice is Camp Play in the Backyard while I work from home, again.

Believe me, there is nothing wrong with Camp Go Outside and Stop Pestering Your Sister.

But I’ve got a secret. I’ve got an ace in my pocket. Burlington Paint and Sip started offering summer camp this summer. Paint and Create Kids’ Camp sounds incredible.

two young girls smiling and painting during the Burlington Paint and Sip Paint and Create Kids' CampTruth: before I hit publish on this post, I am going to sign my daughter up for a session of this camp. Spots are still available and the programming sounds like just the right mix of creative time, movement, and exploration so kids can enjoy every magical moment of summer in Vermont. Who doesn’t love a refreshing blast of cool air conditioning when the heat is oppressive? Who doesn’t want to explore the shores of our spectacular (and briefly sixth Great Lake) Lake Champlain? Who doesn’t want to stroll on Church Street and see people and street performers? Come on. The location alone checks all of my boxes.

Most importantly, this camp is for kids who want to spend up to three hours each day working on individual and group creative art projects. I won’t give any spoilers, but I have spoken with Megan and Claire, the owners of Burlington Paint and Sip and they have fantastic plans. Plans that make me wish they were also offering Paint and Create Camp for moms. But I’d require naptime and special permission to talk endlessly about Love Island, my favorite trash TV show. I also neeeeed that tiny, granular crushed ice. If you know, you know.

Here’s another tidbit of info. My daughter hates camp. She is fresh-eyed 11 going on salty 75. She is the anti-participator, and the jaded critic, and she doesn’t like group activities, adults using the word “sus,” when I chew loudly, or anything too “peppy.” Honestly, this is even funnier if you know me. I have the archetypal “Golden Lab” personality. I generally am happy, am always excited to meet everyone, and I will bite you if I get crabby or feel hassled. I am also very food motivated and like to spend a lot of time in the water.

My daughter is begging to go to Burlington Paint and Sip’s Paint and Create Kids’ Camp.

How can I deny her this experience? I wish I could go too!

Kids of all ages painting water scenes at Burlington Paint and Sip's Paint and Create Kids CampLet me share the details that I know you’re dying to find out:

        • Each session of camp lasts one week and costs $365.
        • Sessions run from 8:30 am- 3:00 pm.
        • Aftercare is optional. It goes from 3:00 pm- 5:00 pm all five days and is available for $100 extra.

Since I became a parent, nothing feels convenient. Everything requires so much planning and effort. Paint and Create Kids’ Camp offers curbside pickup and drop-off. Could it get any easier? Know what else is easy? Not planning, proctoring, or cleaning up after your kid’s creative fun. Why don’t you let the pros do it, for a change?
