Celebrate Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 10, at Shelburne Museum!
Family art activities and events will be ongoing from noon to 4 p.m. Every year hundreds of families join the fun on the grounds and in the gardens, with art and magical activities including: a doll tea party, guided walks, crafts, live music and more. Discover, learn and grow at Shelburne Museum.
“It’s wonderful to welcome back spring and families as we mark the opening of another Shelburne Museum summer season with programming, and a celebration of moms,” said Shelburne Museum’s Director of Education & Public Programs Karen Petersen.
Landscape and Gardens Manager Jess Gallas reports that “flowers have always bloomed between May 13 and 18.” So we hold out hope that the Museum’s lovely apple blossoms and 400 lilac bushes in 90 varieties will ‘agree’ to be in bloom in time for this special day.
In addition to games and rides on the Museum’s vintage carousel (weather permitting), visitors will also be able to purchase gift memberships.
Mom’s Day Activities Include:
A Doll Tea Party
Tea and treats with special friends. Dolls and stuffed toys are always welcome guests at the Museum’s annual Mother’s Day tea party.
Write and Grow
Write your loved ones a message that will grow flowers using handmade paper embedded with seeds.
Spring Chapeaux
Creative hat-making: make and wear fanciful hats and head pieces for spring and, of course, the tea party. Remember to take a keepsake photograph.

Make your own tiny terrarium at the Dutton House Shed
Story Walk: Guess How Much I Love You
A walk on Museum grounds based on the book by author Sam McBratney and illustrated by Anita Jeram.
1–1:30 p.m. and 2–2:30 p.m: Fiddleheads from Young Tradition Vermont
Join young musicians interested in learning and performing traditional fiddle tunes as they present music from northern New England and around the world.
1 p.m. and 3 p.m: Camera Walks
Visit the outdoor gallery and explore landscape photography with photographer Alison Redlich.
10 a.m.–5 p.m. at the Circus Building
Take a ride on the Shelburne Museum Carousel (weather permitting).
10 a.m.–5:30 p.m: Plant Sale at the Museum Store
Shelburne Museum’s annual plant sale featuring: Museum lilac clippings, daylily and peony varieties, hanging baskets and assorted annual and heirloom vegetable plants.
