When it came time for our team to have new shirts made, we knew exactly who we wanted to work with. Thanks to our ShopVT website, we had been exposed to the amazing people and products of Vermont Clothing Company.
When we began working together to create the perfect shirt, we quickly realized just how amazing this local, family run business was! We decided the best way to say thank you was to tell you all about them!
In 2009 Matt and Patti Walker moved to Vermont to settle down. Matt is a Vermonter born and raised, and after many years of traveling for a high-stress job, he decided it was time to come home. By the fall of 2011, Matt and Patti purchased Vermont Clothing Company and began a new adventure together as Vermont business owners. Their goal was to create a business that allowed them to support their family while also giving them the freedom and flexibility to focus on family life. We all know that being a working parent can be tough, but the Walkers find a way to make parent/teacher meetings, sports events, and all the other details of family life a priority.
To this day, even with all the success they have seen, the Walkers operate under a strict “family first” policy.
The Walker family’s commitment to community is heart-warming and inspiring. The list of organizations and committees where they volunteer is extensive and impressive. As a stay at home mom looking to connect with her community, Patti began to serve on the Swanton Recreation Board. Ten years later, she is still serving and took her community involvement one step further by also joining the Swanton Elementary School Board, where she is serving her third three-year term. Matt coaches JV basketball, little league, oversees the AAU basketball program, and helps the community during election season. The list goes on and on, suffice it to say, the Walkers care about the community they live in.
As their involvement in the local rec department grew, so did their heart’s capacity to love. A few years ago they became aware of a girl in need of adult support and guidance. The Walkers promptly stepped in, offering a place to stay and a helping hand as needed. The need for a permanent home became apparent, and just like that. Matt and Patti welcomed Emily into their home as one of their own. Alongside their two sons, Richard and Patrick, they took taking care of their community to a whole new level. It’s this dedication and commitment to doing the right thing that makes us proud to work with such an amazing local business.
Vermont Clothing Company is a family owned, locally run business whose products are designed and perfected right here in Vermont.
Their St Albans factory employs nine local residents. It’s no surprise that the Walkers are nothing short of kind and caring employers. They are invested in their employees and it shows. When making purchasing decisions, we know Vermonters like to know that they are supporting their neighbors and friends. We love that the VCC factory uses “Cow Power” electricity and boasts a zero carbon footprint. That is something to be proud of! They use phthalate-free ink and soy solvents and also offer 100% organic products. These guys don’t just say they love Vermont, they show it!
Soon we will be telling you all about VCC’s T-Shirts for A Cause campaign that offers an amazing way to allow groups to have shirts made for fundraisers. The heart behind this program is touching, and not all about the money. The Walkers truly want to help the communities in Vermont and we are so touched at the amazing ways they do so.
