What I would like to say to “her”

Lullaby WishesBurlingtonVT Moms Blog is partnering with Northeastern Reproductive Medicine to bring you our latest series titled “Lullaby Wishes: raising infertility awareness.” 1 in 8 couples suffer from infertility and yet the subject is often not openly discussed and seems to carry a stigma. Through this series we hope to open the dialogue and help women battling through infertility know that they are not alone. Thank you to the courageous women who have chosen to share their stories as part of this series, as we know that this topic is often deeply personal and difficult to discuss. Our desire is that those reading this series will find encouragement in the hope and beauty that is weaved into these stories of heartache, loss and love.

What I would like to say to “her”.

Thank you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you from every ounce of my soul. Thank you.

You donated your eggs so that I might have the chance to be a mom. You don’t know me, but you gave me a gift I will never be able to properly thank you for.

You gave me more than just eggs.

My husband was able to watch our son exit my body and enter the world, with his little eyes wide open in curiosity. Thank you for helping him have that moment.

The photo, taken by my sister shortly after I gave birth, of me with my father.  We are looking away from the camera at something out of the frame….my new son. The look in my fathers eyes, now a Grampy, makes me catch my breath. Thank you for helping give my father a grandson.

My t-shirt, clean ten minutes ago, is now covered in nose boogies and breakfast crumbs.  My hair is still damp from the shower, and has had sticky little fingers run through it. Thank you for this. My son jumping to bury his face in my neck and snuggle on my lap is worth the boogies and crumbs he leaves behind.

Finally, thank you for going through this process again for us. The ultrasounds, lab draws and hormone injections are not pleasant. But you did it all again for us to have the chance to grow our family.  Thank you for enduring the discomfort (pain) again.

Thank you…..
